Skydiving Over Dubai: Our Once-in-a-Lifetime Jump
What started as a spontaneous idea turned into the most thrilling experience of our lives — skydiving over Palm Jumeirah with Skydive Dubai. From pre-jump jitters to free-falling at 13,000 ft, here’s what it really feels like to take the plunge!
💡 How It All Began
Unlike most people who spend weeks planning their first skydiving experience, ours was spontaneous. During our honeymoon, I pitched the idea of skydiving in Dubai to my wife, half-jokingly — and to my surprise, she said yes!
📲 Booking & Arrival
Booking was seamless. Once we arrived at the Skydive Dubai Palm Dropzone, we signed waivers and got a pager that buzzed when it was our turn — a nice touch that allowed us to roam the campus and soak in the energy. Watching other skydivers land with huge smiles only made us more excited.📍
📍Why We Chose Skydive Dubai
We were already heading to the UAE for a Coldplay concert in Abu Dhabi, so adding a few thrill-seeking days in Dubai made perfect sense. We found an amazing combo deal on the Headout app that included both Skydive Dubai and XLine Dubai Marina — a massive urban zipline from a 43-storey building. It cost around $808 / AED 2967 / ₹70,000 total, and honestly, the zipline helped ease our nerves before the big jump.
🚀 The Build-Up to the Jump
When our pager buzzed, I made a quick dash to the bathroom (not nerves, I promise!). Once back, we stored our loose items (rings, glasses, etc.) in lockers. Safety is top-notch here — your instructor checks everything, explains the body positions for the jump, and introduces you to the videographer who captures your entire experience.
We boarded the shuttle to the plane, and thanks to boarding last, we were ironically first to jump. My instructor strapped in behind me, gave me final hand signals, and secured my goggles over my regular glasses — yes, that’s allowed!
At 13,000 feet, the plane door opened to reveal the brilliant blue sky and Dubai’s coastline. Our videographer jumped out first, and then… it was our turn.
🌬️ The Jump – A 13,000 ft Free Fall
The moment you leave the plane, you're hit with cool air rushing at 190 km/h (120 mph). Your heart races, but the fear disappears. It’s just you, the sky, and an unforgettable view of the earth below. Pro Tip: Keep your mouth closed if you want to look cool in your video!
For about 20 seconds, you free fall while your videographer circles you like a superhero — showing just how much skill goes into filming mid-air. Then, your instructor deploys the parachute.
🪂 The Descent – Calm Above the Chaos
As the chute opens, you're jolted slightly (a good reminder of how fast you were falling!). Blood rushes to your head, but that quickly fades into awe as Palm Jumeirah and the city skyline come into full view. The instructor often hands over the controls so you can steer and experience the feeling of flying.
As you approach the ground, your instructor will pat you — that’s the signal to raise your legs high for a smooth landing. Your videographer is already on the ground, ready to capture the touchdown and those big post-jump smiles.
🙌 Would I Recommend It?
Absolutely. Whether it’s your honeymoon, a solo trip, or a birthday bucket-list item — skydiving in Dubai is a must. The views, the adrenaline, and the overall professionalism of the Skydive Dubai team make it world-class.
I’m already planning to get certified for a solo skydive in the future. If this inspired you to do the same, follow us on Instagram at @travelwith9to5 and let’s keep the adventure going!
